Afterlife Bonds—The Book Release Party!

When I started to plan a Book Release party, I knew it had to be a place where deep thinkers would be comfortable. I imagined sitting beside Hemingway on a stool in Sloppy Joe’s Bar in Key West, Florida, and talking in low tones while discussing the events leading to “Afterlife Bonds” being written. But where could I go in Austin? Daisy Lounge is a little speakeasy in my neighborhood. Decorated with themes of an old library. A dark green interior with gold accents glistened after you find the secret door with only a symbol to identify its entrance. The menu was filled with one-of-a-kind concoctions that made me feel enveloped in this speakeasy of yesteryear. Amir, the owner, was eager to hold the first Book Release Party and offered to buy my book, “Afterlife Bonds,” to start the speakeasy library. His pastry chef was engaged in creating a one-of-a-kind cake that would look like my book and be chocked full of chocolate and Nutella.

On August 28th, a Happy Hour Book Release at the speakeasy was underway. It was 2 hours with cocktails and bits to nibble. I mingled and enjoyed the buzz of friends wanting to buy my book. One lady invited me to come to her house and celebrate the book release while I read a passage from the book. Another group of ladies bought the book for their "book club." I told them to check the Book Club section of the website for chapter questions and have a free discussion with me when they finish the book.

After everyone had a cocktail in hand, I read a passage from “Afterlife Bonds.” Then, I shared my brother’s mediumistic experience at my mother’s funeral the week before. How, in one metaphysical second, he transformed from skeptic to believer with an unexpected connection to our mother. Suddenly, he needed to learn more about spirit communication. I couldn’t have planned this coincidence. We talked about spirit and the ability to connect with the afterlife. He wanted to know more, a lot more. My book was due to be released two days later. He bought my book and read it straight through, giving him exercises and activities to consider. The timing could not have been more perfect. This was the reason I wrote “Afterlife Bonds,” We are all capable of communication with the afterlife, and through this, we know spirit is with us and supports us through healing the loss.
